Etobicoke Centre MPP Supports 10th Annual Walk for PKD on September 25th

Donna Cansfield will participate in the PKD Foundation of Canada's nation-wide efforts to raise more than CDN$60,000 for research into Polycystic Kidney Disease through this signature fundraising campaign.

Toronto, Canada (prHWY.com) September 17, 2011 - Mrs. Donna Cansfield, Etobicoke Centre MPP, will attend the 10th Annual Toronto Walk for PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) for the official ribbon cutting ceremony.

"My mother died as a result of kidney disease and I am delighted to support and participate in the 10th Annual Walk for Polycystic Kidney Disease in Centennial Park. The funds raised will help finance crucial research on this life threatening disease, raise awareness in our community and provide much needed support for patients and their families," she said.

The goal of the Toronto Walk for PKD, hosted by the PKD Foundation of Canada, is to raise critical funds and invaluable public awareness for research into Polycystic Kidney Disease.

Registration takes place at Centennial Park - Picnic Area 6 in Etobicoke at 9:30am on Sunday, September 25th, 2011. The walk starts promptly at 11:00am and will be followed by a post-walk BBQ for all attendees.

Globally, some 12.5 million people have PKD. The Walk for PKD takes place in 60 cities worldwide and thousands of North American's take to the streets every year raising funds to find a cure for PKD. Donations can also be made online by visiting the PKD Foundation of Canada website.

Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) is one of the most common, life-threatening genetic diseases in the world. PKD causes cysts to grow in the kidneys and can eventually lead to kidney failure. Dialysis or kidney transplantation are the only means of prolonging one's quality of life. Currently there is no treatment or cure for PKD.

The Toronto Chapter of the PKD Foundation of Canada hosts bi-monthly educational support group meetings for local patients, their families and friends.
