The Prius PHV differs from the regular Prius in a few key areas, namely its ability to run up to 15 miles as an electric car after which the vehicle's Hybrid Synergy Drive takes over. This marks a 15% improvement over previous estimates. In EV Mode, Toyota estimates the PHV will deliver the equivalent of 89 miles per gallon. In hybrid mode, the vehicle will still deliver an amazing 49 mile per gallon average. Recharge time at 115V takes just 3 hours, or even less than that with the new Leviton Level II charger.

Division Group vice president and general manager Bob Carter announces the launch next March 2012 of the Prius PHV. Also of importance to note is the fact that thanks to the PHV's smaller 4.4 lithium battery pack, owners qualifies for a federal tax credit of $2,500!
