Amazon Looking More And More Like Apple
Amazon seems to be trying more and more to follow the model of Apple with their line of products.

Think about it - first they introduce the Kindle, their e-book reader. It was, and is, a huge success. Then, they start to go much farther recently. First, offering the Amazon MP3 service, which allowed us all to download just about any popular piece of music out there (think ITunes).
After that, they started offering Amazon Wireless, where you could actually get cell phone service through the company (not exactly their own phone, yet). Now, add to that Amazon Video on Demand, giving us a new way to watch our favorite shows.
And don't forget they also own Audible.com for all of our audiobooks!
This year saw the emergence of the Amazon Marketplace, an app store for Android devices ad a clear signal that they wanted to move even further into the smartphone and tablet space.
The culmination of all this is the Kindle Blog Fire. The Fire is Amazon's brand new e-reader and tablet. It runs on its own proprietary version of Android, meaning it is somewhat locked down, like the iPhone and iPad. It does not have access to the regular Android Market but has it's own marketplace mentioned above, and is optimized for all of Amazon's content offerings.
So, is Amazon on the right track with this new direction for their business? If past successes are any indication, Apple could have a run for its money in the near future.
