Nashville's The Pedal Stills Make Big Sounds With "Speakeasy" Ep

NASHVILLE, TN [OCTOBER 29,2011] - Three months, several different studios, and the collective creativity from Nashville's rising rock-n-soul foursome has paid off in a big kind of way. Friday The Pedal Stills released their freshman EP "SpeakEasy" and it was welcomed with open arms.

"Playing pop-rock with soul isn't always easy in a country market", says lead guitarist John Hollier, but Music City's rock populace likes what it hears. The Pedal Stills lead off with single "Red Dress".

"It's [Red Dress] a blend of our '90s rock background with some Motown groove", explains font-man Cory Kelley. "It's definitely got a lot of Music City in it, but we try to stay true to what we know best."

Backing up the "big band" feel of their single, The Pedal Stills slow back down to crystal-clear East Coast rock ballad "Carolina Thunderstorm".

"Carolina [Thunderstorm] was a collective of our roots and songs we grew up playing to", says bassist Dave Nichols. "The song certainly carries a lot of our home town influence and feel", continues Nichols, speaking about how growing up in South Carolina made it's way into their muse.

Though the band relies on the energy of their melodic rock sound, the release does not just showcase distorted guitars and huge drums. Rounding out the five song effort, the band shows just how rooted they are with songs like, "Thought About You" and "Dance Floor" which feature fiddle, foot stomping, and intimate harmonies.

With only playing the Nashville circuit since early March, the group feels headstrong about making the most out of the release. The new issue ushers in a new merchandise line-up, as well as a small tour to promote the EP.

"At this point we're just trying to tackle our area and the Southeast as a whole. We're not necessarily looking for overnight success nationally", Kelley states.

"SpeakEasy" is available on iTunes, Amazon, and can be purchased in download card format at shows. The Pedal Stills will be celebrating the release in Nashville at The Rutledge on November 2nd with friends, The Brad Cash Band.

Turning the volume up on Nashville's rock scene is the aim of group, and so far so good. You can catch The Pedal Stills in Birmingham's The Nick, Atlanta's classic Smith's Olde Bar, and more throughout November and December.

With a back-porch rock feel, The Pedal Stills and "SpeakEasy" are an excellent addition to anyone's playlist.
