Kenosha Kia dealerships show off fuel-efficient Rio
The 2012 Kia Rio will now feature "start-stop" technology.

Owners and shoppers of new and used cars may have noticed more use of "start-stop" engine technology which shuts off the engine when the car is stopped for more than a few seconds. The engine then restarts when the driver releases the break. While this functionality is usually featured in hybrid models, some car companies like Kia are including it in conventional models as well.
Seeing as the 2012 Kia Rio subcompact is the least expensive model in Kia's lineup, consumers will definitely appreciate this functionality - although they will have to spend an extra $400 for the "Eco" option to enjoy it. Nevertheless, the improved fuel efficiency is sure to please Kia fans and consumers who decide to take it for a test drive.
The only other automakers with models that feature start-stop technology are BMW and Porsche - although, John O'Dell at Edmunds.com foresees many more vehicles equipped with start-stop technology within five years: "It's going to be very popular. It's a fairly inexpensive way to get a 3-5% fuel economy increase."
Consumers are hoping that O'Dell's prediction will come true, while interested shoppers can start testing it in the 2012 Kia Rio. Sales team members at Kenosha Kia dealerships like Classic Kia are excited to offer the model and hope to see more consumer traffic in their showroom.
