Lancashire, United Kingdom (prHWY.com) December 9, 2011 - SolarPanelPVT.com, online experts for the UK's solar energy needs, are advising the nation's homeowners to act quick if they want to get the most out of their solar panel installations.

From December 12 the UK Government will be revising the payback rates of its Feed-in Tariff (FIT), an incentive which began in April 2010 to encourage more consumers to adopt renewable technologies.

As part of the current scheme, homeowners with a solar PV installation on their roof receive 43.3p for every kWh of green electricity they produce. It means that for the average photovoltaic system, the install and purchase cost can be paid back in as little as 10 years. Furthermore, for any unused electricity an additional earning of 3.1p can be made.

However, under new revisions by the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC), these financial incentives are about to be dramatically cut. As of December 12, 2011 the generation tariff for a solar PV installation of 4kW or less will be slashed to 21p per kWh. It means that an investment of this size will take almost double the payback time of one of the same cost made prior to the FIT review.

In light of this, SolarPanelPVT.com is advising any households considering a solar panel installation to make haste in order to get a quicker return on their investment.

Andrew Collinge, SolarPanelPVT.com's Solar Advisor, said: "This week's announcement by the DECC is heavy news for homeowners in the UK who have been looking to solar PV as a practical, fast and reliable finance option in these tough economic times. With rising energy bills the advantage of free electricity combined with an impressively short returns period on an overall solar panel investment has been driving solar PV to be the renewables success story of the year.

"Yes, homeowners will still be able to benefit from the FIT, free electricity and a lower carbon footprint, but in order to secure a guaranteed return at the current rate of 43.3p/kWh we are encouraging homeowners to act now."
