Specializing in agricultural tourism, Culture Aangan aims to facilitate an enriching experience of the Konkan region's cultural heritage in a way that corporate tourism does not provide. To this end, guests stay with local agricultural families instead of a hotel, which offers them comprehensive experience of the rural lifestyle.
The hosts at Culture Aangan are villagers, who take care of the boarding, lodging and food. The Pinguli Village at Sindhudurg Sawantvadi, also hosts a tribal puppet show to entertain visitors. The home stay offers experiences of virgin forests, local flora/ fauna and waterfall expeditions, fruit orchards, coral reefs and wildlife sanctuaries.
Culture Aangan offers several packages to guests, including Tryst with Royalty, Jungle Trek, Homestay Getaway, Village Diaries, Valentine's Day Holiday and Date with the Ridley Turtle. These packages are designed in a way that throws light into different aspects of the Indian culture. For instance, while one may facilitate regal lifestyle, the other offers insight into the primary pillars of Indian villages.
The travel packages cater to romantic couples, nature lovers, oceanography enthusiasts and those out on a leisure trip. Being client centric, Culture Aangan offers to design holiday packages according to visitors' interests and preferences. To this end, the home stay facilitator requires guests to fill up a form offering their personal details, interests and activities they would like to engage in while at Culture Aangan.
Culture Aangan offers stay at Rs. 5000 per couple, every night. The rate includes food and an activity. The home stay facilitator charges Rs. 1000, for every new activity.
One of the happy clients, Joaquim Fuentes Pila, from Madrid, praised the services in high flown terms saying, "I have enjoyed very much the stay in your home. A pleasure to have the opportunity to talk...about India, countryside life...and enjoy the food...this place reminds me of our summer stays in the countryside home, my grandfather's home."
About Culture Aangan: Established by Rashmi Sawant in 2005, Culture Aangan was an attempt to promote sustainable tourism, at the same time safeguarding the local culture. In total, there are 15 home stays and 30 activities at Culture Aangan. In 2010, Culture Aangan received the Konkan Ratna for the commendable work done in the Konkan region. The home stay is also in The Guardian's list of the "Top 10 Home Stays in India."
