Chappaqua, NY (prHWY.com) December 28, 2011 - Music in Chappaqua began in 1993, with students taking piano lessons in Janet Angier's basement apartment on King Street. With Janet's dedicated approach, patience and enthusiasm, the number of her students grew. She then found other talented, wonderful teachers, and by word of mouth, Music in Chappaqua grew even more. Today, the school boasts over 250 students and teaches a variety of different instruments to all age groups.

The Students of Music in Chappaqua have gone on to study and perform music at schools such as Yale, Stanford, Columbia, Duke, McGill, and the Manhattan School of Music Preparatory Division. MIC students prepare to star in their middle school plays, as well as perform for thousands of spectators at prestigious venues such as The London Symphony, Carnegie Hall, and Tokyo New National Theatre. Their students have competed in (and won) the Golden Key Music Festival, The Music Teachers National Association, and many other local, regional, and national competitions.

Music in Chappaqua's programs help keep today's youth out of trouble by providing a positive and creative outlet. Instead of aimlessly trying to figure out a way to amuse themselves after school, their students focus on a set of goals and skills that stay with them for life. MIC teaches the value of persistence, focus, and hard work. While most students are unlikely to have a career in music, there are many benefits of taking music lessons that will help them prepare for a brighter future.

Playing an instrument, right from the earliest stages, involves many skills - visual, auditory, tactile and kinesthetic. Unlike many specialized activities, playing an instrument helps develop both sides of the brain at the same time, increasing both intellectual functions and physical coordination, patience and confidence. They aid the child's emotional development by providing an outlet for self-expression.

If you are having trouble figuring out what to do with your child after school, call Music in Chappaqua and set up an appointment to see how they can help.
