NOIDA, India (prHWY.com) February 23, 2012 - In India, the coal industry has been expanding on back of strong government support. The coal sector is strategically important for the Indian economy as the fossil fuel meets over 50% of the country's energy requirements. According to a new research report by RNCOS, non-coking coal accounts for the majority share in the country's overall coal production, and is mainly consumed by power and cement sectors. However, the types of non-coking coal produced in India mainly contain high moisture content, and thus, the country has to rely more on imports for good quality fossil fuel.

During financial year 2010-11, the country's top coal producing company Coal India Ltd produced a total of 431.3 Million Metric Tons of coal, of which 389.97 Million Metric Tons was non-coking coal. The "Indian Coal Industry Forecast to 2013", expects that the position of coal will become more crucial in the Indian energy sector, with the energy demand increasing further in the coming years. Growing mergers and acquisitions of coal mines in overseas market, sustained program of investment, greater thrust on application of modern technologies and government support will continue providing a significant boost to the Indian coal market in near future. It is anticipated that the coal production in India will expand at a CAGR of around 9% during 2011-12 to 2013-14.

The 105-page comprehensive report provides an exhaustive research and rational analysis of the current status and expected position of the coal industry in India. It analyzes coal production, its demand, supply and imports in India, and includes pricing and distribution model being followed for the fossil fuel in the country. The study also covers geographic segmentation and analysis, and gives an overview of key market players' activities to provide a balanced outlook of the industry to clients.
