Glassell Park, CA, CA (prHWY.com) March 1, 2012 - Glassell Park, CA (2/27/12): Ashley Lanuza, eighth grader at St. Bernard Catholic School, was named Ambassador for TEAM USA to the 2012 World Education Games. She is one of four students representing the United States in the event to be held March 6-8 on computers across the globe.

World Education Games are sponsored by 3P Learning, an Australian interactive education company, in partnership with UNICEF, the global humanitarian relief organization. Students are matched in real time with up to three other students of similar age and ability in exciting live challenges in the areas of Math, Spelling, and Science. Students earn points for correct answers, with their personal tally growing as they complete each challenge.

In the last five years, the event has grown exponentially. While 286,000 students from 98 countries
participated in 2007, this year's games are expected to draw more than 5 million participants from 215 countries--a number which will break last year's record for "The Largest Online Maths Competition," as noted in the Guinness Book of World Records.

In recognition of her accomplishments, CEO of 3P Learning, Peter Walters, visited St. Bernard and
presented Ashley with a Samsung Galaxy tablet and certificate of commission. Mr. Walters explained that the World Education Games are about inclusiveness. He believes it is important for all children of all abilities and backgrounds (regardless of where they live, or if they are rich or poor) to be able to compete against others of similar ages and abilities from around the globe.

As one of seventy ambassadors chosen worldwide, Ashley feels honored for the privilege to represent her school and country. She says, "Mathletics [one of the web-based programs offered by 3P Learning] is very beneficial for the students at my school, and, hopefully, young scholars from around the world may benefit from the program also."

Outside of school, Ashley writes poems, stories, and song lyrics. She loves to read the classics, and enjoys working on logic problems, ever since doing them for Academic Decathlon. Ashley also enjoys cooking as well as tasting a variety of foods. "Most importantly," she says, "I try to live life to its fullest and reach for any outstanding opportunity I am offered."

Mathletics is just one of the forward-thinking programs offered at St. Bernard School, a K-8 elementary school, serving Glassell Park and surrounding communities since 1946. The school is owned and operated by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, and is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges as well as the Western Catholic Education Association.
