Distance and time no barrier to beauty
Epro opens up acclaimed professional make-up training with new distance learning courses.

After being contacted by ever more students who were unable to commit the time to study full-time or relocate to study at Epro, Ms Parra was inspired to develop her Beauty at a Distance technology, which adapts the schools courses for effective distance learning and overcomes the challenge of replicating a very visual learning experience remotely. For even more flexibility, students can opt to complete the course over three, six or nine months.
The flexibility of the correspondence course opens up the learning experience to people who want to study part-time alongside their existing job, fit their study around childcare, or just want to pursue beauty as a hobby or side-business.
We created this course because we had so many requests from students who couldn't study on-site, because of distance or time, said Ms Parra, founder of Epro, were happy and proud to now be able to provide our same high standards worldwide, opening up the opportunity for people to follow their dream of being a professional make-up artist wherever they are.
Over 1,500 hours of editing were put into creating a series of eight DVDs containing videos and classes. They are backed up by manuals, homework assignments and study plans. And, most importantly, tutor support is provided by a qualified makeup artist school that monitors and corrects student's progress. Upon completion, the student is fully accredited by Epro.
As well as its scope, covering styles of make-up from bridal to catwalk, the course also has an emphasis on marketing and client generation, giving students all the knowledge and support they need to immediately start working and create a successful business from their skills.
Epro is one of Spains leading make-up schools, with locations in Madrid and Barcelona. It has offered courses in English since 2005, and has seen thousands of alumni go on to careers in theatre, the movie industry and at make-up brands.

No degree? No problem
In a changing education marketplace, distance learning is set to shine
With financial pressures and the uncertainty of finding employment, jobseekers are increasingly questioning whether full-time qualifications are worth the risk. As a result, flexible distance learning and home study courses are booming even in the most unexpected of areas. This is evidenced by Epro, Spains leading Beauty College, now launching a distance learning course in what seems to be an inherently face-to-face business: training to be a professional make-up artist.
Distance learning is in tune with the demands of school-leavers who have been forced to become more focused on the direct outcomes of what courses can provide to boost their job prospects, in terms of qualification and knowledge, rather than pursuing further full-time education as an end in itself. The move towards home study is a trend borne out by the Open University reporting a 34% increase in applications, and the downloading of over 20 million educational podcasts and open lectures on iTunes.
This is an indication of Generation Ys values and priorities, says Zack Whittaker, a journalist at ZDnet. Studying part-time allows them to gain experience in the workplace alongside studying for a qualification.
Not only are school-leavers more wary about accumulating the debt that comes with a degree, but people at all stages of life are looking for flexible ways to study either to find employment, or alongside their current job so they can change career paths. Epro's professional make-up course can be completed over three, six or nine months, involving as little as 3.5 hours of study per week.
Another consequence of the job crunch is that prospective students are becoming more entrepreneurial, and want to be equipped with the skills to build their own business as well as gaining vocational knowledge. Epros courses are highly focused on marketing and finding clients, so alumni can start earning from day one.
