The Olympic Games is set to boost the trend towards working from home, according to a new report.

London, AZ (prHWY.com) March 14, 2012 - The Olympic Games is set to boost the trend towards working from home, according to a new report.

Flexible working practices adopted by firms to minimise the disruptive impact of the Games could spark a new wave of home office workers.

The move is expected to see Londoners creating new spaces inside their homes, complete with a range of home office furniture.

The Smart Growth Analytics 2012 Home Office Survey has demonstrated the increasing importance of home offices across London and the rest of the country.

According to the survey there are currently 140,000 home offices across London with the City having the highest density - almost 90 per square km.

Nearly 4% of all those working in the capital work from home using home office furniture compared with 3% nationally.

Interestingly, while home offices are an economic feature across the whole of London, Barnet has the highest volume, with around 8,000.

Analysts believe these office trends will be boosted significantly by the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.

A recent study, by communications strategists Cisco, found that around 22% of UK firms will adopt flexible working practices in order to address disruption.

As well as minimising disruption from the Games, a benefit of increased home office working can include a smaller central office workspace requirement for the firm, saving money.

For employees, benefits include convenience, flexibility and huge time and cost savings through reduced commuting.

Jim Plunkett-Cole, Principal Analyst at Smart Growth Analytics, said: "The findings from this analysis help us to understand the increasingly important home-based economic functionality of London's residential areas."
