Mahindra Middle East (MME) inaugurates state-of-the-art USD 3.5 million transformer cores facility in UAE

Plant designed for annual throughput of 5000 tonnes of transformer cores with aggregate annual turnover at designed capacity of USD 30 million

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (prHWY.com) March 26, 2012 - Mahindra Middle East Electrical Steel Service Centre FZC (MME), a Joint Venture between Mahindra Intertrade Ltd., India and Nippon Steel Corporation, Japan, has inaugurated its state-of-the-art transformer cores facility in Sharjah, UAE.

MME was Mahindra Group's first foray in the Middle East when it set up an electrical steel service centre in Sharjah, in 2005. MME is the largest supplier of processed electrical steel in GCC, and has the distinction of being the first such service centre facility in the region. Set up at a capital expenditure of USD 3.5 million, the plant has been designed for an annual throughput of 5000 tonnes of transformer cores with an aggregate annual turnover at designed capacity (18 million as at present) of USD 30 million.

Given MME's raw material linkage with NSC, a leading manufacturer of electrical steel in the world, and its in-house slitting and cut-to-length capabilities, the facility offers an unmatched value proposition to power transformer manufacturers located in the GCC region namely ABB, Siemens, Votamp, Wescosa, Emirates, Global transformer, Eurogulf etc.

Mr. Zhooben Bhiwandiwala, Executive Vice President - Group Legal and Managing Partner, Mahindra Partners Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., Mr. Harsh Kumar, Managing Director, Mahindra Intertrade Ltd. and Mr. Shinji Minobe, General Manager, Electrical Steel Sheet Division, Flat Products Division, Nippon Steel Corporation, were present at the inauguration, along with senior Mahindra Group officials.
