Seattle, WA (prHWY.com) March 28, 2012 - The New York best-selling series, The Hunger Games has sparked a worldwide craze that has people camping outside theatres in hopes of being the first to catch the newly released movie. While the increase in the series was to be expected, one thing people didn't expect was a food-based competition that was inspired by the movie.

Several Hollywood restaurants are teaming up to offer an eating contest that is fit for strong willed and courageous individuals. The contest is loosely based off of the first book in The Hunger Games series.

"People were constantly making jokes that when they heard the title of the movie or series they immediately thought of hungry people", said event coordinator Timmy Yeman. "After about the tenth joke I had heard about this, I thought 'why not make a food contest that is based loosely on the book and move'?"

The contest will feature 24 participants. The participants will each draw a number in an effort to represent one of the 12 groups or districts. This will be the district or group they represent the entire contest.

"We tried to make the contest very similar to the books", said Hollywood restaurant owner Chloe Fritzgerald. "We obviously can't have people dying in the contest like the book, but we came up with something different."

The contest will feature several meals. Each meal is inspired by some of the most bizarre and crazy foods people eat all over the world. Contestants will have 30 minutes to eat the entire meal, and the meal must stay down for an hour after they are finished. If they do, they will advance to the next round, if not they are immediately eliminated. The winner is the last man or woman standing at the end.

"Our chefs have traveled around the world in an effort to find some of the weirdest foods people eat", said Yeman. "We have octopus pus, rabbit testicles, and other really crazy foods. It definitely isn't a contest for the faint of heart."

The contest is expected to last at least 13 rounds, and each contestant paid an entry fee of $300 to enter. The winner of the contest will receive a T-shirt, a spotlight feature on a major TV show, and interviews with various TV talk shows. Reaction from the contestants has been fairly positive.

"I immediately signed up for this when I saw it", said Chris Billings. "I couldn't pass it up. I just had to see if I could be the extreme one to make it. I have a stomach that is iron lined! I shall win!".
