The Roofer Kansas City Homes Hire in Next 20 Years will Stay Loyal to Asphalt, Contractor Predicts
Two decades is a long time, but the Missouri-based composition roofing expert expressed confidence this week over the long-term viability of asphalt shingles.

"The roofer Kansas City households would call on for installing a new roof in the future is likely to still choose asphalt shingles," predicted the company.
The fearless forecast is not without basis, MB Roofing, Inc. said, citing that asphalt shingles continue to evolve and yet retain their classic appeal.
Latest developments to convert roofs to roads are expected to sustain the popularity of asphalt shingles, as recycling facilities and processing plants across the United States find new uses for tear-offs.
The new markets mostly include pavements, parking lots, and road repair solutions.
Truth in numbers
According to the National Association of Home Builders, asphalt shingles account for close to 70 percent of the total bulk of roofing products used in residential construction.
Eighty percent of residential dwelling units sport a composition roof. Even as alternatives such as metal roofs, tiles, and shakes emerge, market trends continue to favor asphalt shingles.
In fact, the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association estimates that North America alone produces shingles that are enough to roof 5M homes each year.
The figure comes close to 13 million square feet of the material.
Rooted loyalties
"Considering the advantages offered by the material, we are not surprised to learn that both households and roofer Kansas City locals employ have quickly latched on to asphalt shingles," MB Roofing, Inc. explained.
* Shingles are economical. Given the same area for a roofing project, best-quality shingles can turn out to be at least four times cheaper than ceramic or wood shake. The difference in pricing could be more pronounced when pitting composition against metal roofs, the company said.
* Shingles are versatile. Sun and cold have "queer" effects on the material, the roofing contractor hinted. For the most part though, shingle roofs are one of the most impressive in terms of weather performance. As the sun's heat aids in the installation process, cooler temperatures actually preserve the useable life of the roofing system.
* Shingles are easy to install. The materials can cater to the needs of both the professional residential construction and DIY segments. "We must stress though that DIY roofing, no matter how small the repairs, can still be dangerous," cautioned the roofer.
Early beginnings
Various accounts suggest that asphalt shingles are no more than two centuries old.
Historians estimate the golden age of composition roofing to occur in the 1920s, whereas records from the US Patent and Trademark Office show that asphalt shingles were patented to four inventors only in 1986.
