Dark Hollow Road Madison, WI (prHWY.com) April 5, 2012 - Nail fungus treatment can be through use of over-the-counter medication that comes in different forms like oral and topical medications. With topical treatments, lotions, creams or ointments are used. However, effectiveness against the condition is low because of their inability to penetrate the nails in order for them to reach the fungus that are underneath the nails. The effectiveness is also rare when you dip the hands in solutions that are medicated. Again when you fail to dry the hands well, the condition is likely to be aggravated.

There are a few creams that are effective and you do not need a prescription from a doctor because they are readily available in local pharmacy shops. Following the revision by FDA of a policy concerning over-the-counter products for treating nail fungus, effective treatments are relatively inexpensive.

Nail fungus are treatable by use of most of the household and homeopathic medications. Other options include Fung-B-Gone which is a homeopathic medicine or saprox which is an antifungal mud. Other forms of treatments that have good effects include dimethyl sulfoxide, Vicks Vaporub and Listerine mouthwash. Among the OTC drugs, the one used most commonly is hydrogen peroxide. Amorolfine comes as a nail lacquer and is applied upon the nails just as with nail polish. The lacquer contains a drug that upon penetrating the nail, it examinants the fungus by getting to the nail bed.

When home remedies and other forms of treatment have failed, another option that is good is oral medications because they have high level of effectiveness. However, you need a prescription that is valid for you to obtain such medications. The oral medications that most doctors prescribe include Lamisil and Leucatin. There are individuals who treat nail fungus by use of Clotrimazole which is also an example of over-the-counter drugs. However, it is not the best option in terms of effectiveness.

Foe over-the-counter drugs to be effective in cure of nail fungus, a routine manner needs to be adopted. Prior to application of the medications, ensure that the nails are well trimmed and clean. When you are infected with nail fungus, the nails grow thick therefore the nails need to be filed down to a thickness that is desired. Start by soaking the nails using vinegar solution for them to become soft. This followed by trimming them before drying them properly. You can now use the medications and results may take several weeks to be noticed and the procedure must be repeated for some weeks. Over the counter medications for nail fungus are only effective in treatment when the infection is mild. For severe cases, contacting a doctor is important.

With pharmacological treatment mostly involves intraconazole and terbinafine which are anti-fungal medications that are systematic. Nail paints are examples of topical medications that contain amorolfine or ciclopirox. It is advisable to utilize antifungal therapy that is systematic in cases of superficial onychmycosis instead of topical therapy. By soaking in hydrogen peroxide, nail fungus is eliminated since it is a nail fungus treatment too.
