Ahmedabad, India (prHWY.com) April 13, 2012 - STCW95 Training is essentially a Certificate of Safety Training. This qualification is a necessary precondition for people looking for work on an Australian registered boat or within the offshore oil and gas industry.

This qualification is accepted by the Flag States which includes the other countries that are participants in the International Maritime Organization's STCW convention. This qualification is also accepted by The United Kingdom Maritime and Coastguard Agency or MCA. CoST must be accepted by MCA for Super yacht Crew Placement on a majority of the superyachts worldwide.

State and Territory waterways authorities within Australia may also accept an AMSA CoST as comparable to or an advanced level qualification than the Elements of Shipboard Safety or ESS. Candidates must seek information from their state waterways authority about the recognition of CoST, if they need an ESS Certificate.

A CoST is issued by AMSA to just those candidates who finish the CoST training at a Registered Training Organization which is approved by AMSA.

The CoST Course at present includes four compulsory short courses:

* Personal Survival Techniques or PST.
* Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting.
* Elementary First Aid.
* Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities or PSSR.

At this point, The SAC training is a non-compulsory fifth short course. After 1st January, 2014 AMSA will issue a CoST to only the candidates who have successfully completed all the five short courses with the SAC. Plus, RPL will be permitted by AMSA for only the Basic First Aid division of the training.

Recognition of prior learning or RPL is given to any student who considers that he or she can corroborate a claim to being already proficient in a particular course unit which is delivered under the trusted Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).

The theory training as well as assessment for the First Aid training is provided via on-line learning which is internet based. The practical training as well as assessment is delivered by attending a one day course, generally held on a Wednesday. If you are proficient the on-line learning training module should take you only an hour or else two to complete.
After receiving the Statement of Attainment, you must aspire for a CoST issue. For this you have to apply to AMSA. With the application to AMSA you must give an ID and other documents authorized as genuine copies of the originals by an AMSA-approved STCW95 person or by a Justice of the Peace.

A fee of $155 is to be paid to AMSA so that they can issue the Certificate of Safety Training.

When you enroll for Crew STCW95 course remember that the practical part of the training is quite challenging, physically. If you cannot lift weights up to your body weight you will have a lot of trouble with the FIRE and PST training modules. Moreover, The PST practical assessment requires you to swim and stay afloat devoid of a buoyancy device.

STCW95 Training is important for a career in the marine industry. Candidates must attain the age of 16 years prior to beginning the training
