Bangalore, India (prHWY.com) April 16, 2012 - Not many of us, know this, but science is actually derived from a Latin word which means knowledge. In essence, science is nothing but the pursuit of knowledge. Scientists continue to strive towards quenching their thirst for knowledge, which is the reason they took up this field of work. Before we go any further, let us clear our conscience and make sure we understand what science means. As with anything, people will have a clearer picture of science, if we could define it. Although it is very difficult to do so, let us look at the widely accepted one. Science is a systematic enterprise that builds and organizes knowledge in the form of testable explanations and predictions about the universe.

Man has always been fascinated by science. From the very beginning, there were those that questioned faith and god. They wanted to know to know how it all began. Even when everyone around them, believed that it was due to the almighty above, there were those who argued otherwise and refused to accept anything unless they were given appropriate evidence. Science in a broad sense existed before the modern era, and in many historical civilizations, but modern science is so distinct in its approach and successful in its results that it now defines what science is in the strictest sense of the term. Much earlier than the modern era, another important turning point was the development of the classical natural philosophy in the ancient Greek-speaking world.
Before the invention or discovery of the concept of "nature", by the Pre Socratic philosophers, the same words tend to be used to describe the natural "way" in which a plant grows. For this reason it is claimed these men were the first philosophers in the strict sense, and also the first people to clearly distinguish "nature" and "convention". Science was therefore distinguished as the knowledge of nature. A few centuries later, after the works of Newton and Einstein, science has grown from mere questionings of faith to becoming a network consisting of theories that have been proved and verified.
Even though that is the case, a scientific theory is always empirical, and is always open to falsification if new evidence is presented. That is, no theory is ever considered strictly certain as science sees it fit to acknowledge the fact that human beings could be wrong about their beliefs, expectations or their understanding of the world. Scientific knowledge consists of the search for truth, but not the search for certainty. All human knowledge is fallible and therefore uncertain.
Even if we aren't scientists or those with a deep interest in that sort of stuff, we are all curious. We want to know how it all began and the reason as to why
