Lengkuas Island

Lengkuas island is a small island northern side of Tanjung Binga village - Bangka Island. Its total width only less than one hectare. Around the island, there are so many granite rock island which can be reached only by foot.

Bangka, Indonesia (prHWY.com) April 26, 2012 - Lengkuas island is a small island northern side of Tanjung Binga village - Bangka Island. Its total width only less than one hectare. Around the island, there are so many granite rock island which can be reached only by foot, walking across shallow sea with less than 1.2 m depth. Its granite stone structures are also unique and different with other places by combination of white-sand beach and trees. Its sea water is really clear. You can clearly watch to the bottom of the sea, including fishes swimming inside it. This is a fancy place to play in the sea or snorkeling.

The crown of Lengkuas island actually is an old lighthouse. Built by dutch since 1882. We don't have information about exact height of this building. Our calculation, more or less it is similar with 12 floors buildings. More or less 50 m. all visitors are allowed to climb in the peak of lighthouse. It would be difficult a bit because it needs extra power. But don't worry, you won't waste your time. Sight seeing from the peak of Lengkuas lighthouse is so beautiful to be told. It is really beautiful, 360 degrees around the island and around it. If you climb up there, don't forget to bring camera. Let your photo works told its beauty.

There are only three people live in Lengkuas. They are operators of this lighthouse. They are so friendly to all visitors. It needs to know, water supply is limited in this island, although there's a toilet, please use water wisely. This place is so relax. The wind blow so fresh. You can sunbathe and take a rest upon the white sand surrounded this island under the protection of coconut trees.

Lengkuas can be reached by rent a boat from Tanjung Binga. The rent cost is about IDR 350.000 for one trip which used to spend half a day. The travel time from Belitung beach to Lengkuas is only about 30-45 minutes. The rent boat is able to bring 30-40 people and this is a fisherman boat which commonly used to look for fish in the night. This boat is kinda unique, where there's a frame in both side of boat, which made this boat becme stable although it sailed under a big wave.

The best time to visit Lengkuas is the end of March - November. Along these time, the wave would be calmer, so you can enjoy the trip by boat, snorkeling, and swimming in clear water. Along December - January, the waves probably bigger than usual, and sometimes rainfall all days.

Between Lengkuas island and fisherman's dock in Tanjung Binga, there's another island named Burung island. In the trip to Lengkuas, you'll pass this island. This island is bigger than Lengkuas a bit, by white sand in southern side, and granite rock in northern side. The visitors used to stop a while in Burung island in the way home from Lengkuas to Tanjung Binga. The most attractive object from Burung island is a granite which is formed like a bird which located in the island's beach. That's why this island called as Burung (bird) island.
