Assistant Public Defender Patrick Songy Joins Luhrsen Law Group
Lursen Law Group which handles liquor liability and injury-related cases is pleased to announce that Patrick Songy, a five year veteran of the Public Defender's Office for the 12th Judicial Circuit, has joined the firm's litigation division.
Attorney Songy's educational background and experience with the Public Defender's Office complements Luhrsen Law Group's existing pre-suit and litigation divisons. A cum laude graduate of the University of Florida, Patrick chose Stetson College of Law for its strong trial advocacy and evidence programs. Along with his academic focus on trial work, Patrick served as a certified legal intern for the Honorable Judge Pat Caddell, Pinellas County and for the Honorable Bob Dillinger as an Assistant Public Defender.
During his tenure as an Assistant Public Defender in the 12th Judicial Circuit -- under the Honorable Elliot Metcalfe and later Larry Eger, Patrick developed expertise in the many adverse impacts that alcohol and substance abuse have on our community. According to Patrick, "in the course of representing thousands of clients -- initially as division chief of the misdemeanor division and later as a felony prosecutor - I got a first-hand look at how often drugs and alcohol were the root cause of my client's criminal troubles. Often it was as direct as defending a client charged with drunk driving, but too frequently clients facing more serious crimes, including mandatory life-imprisonment sentences, were suffering from very real and serious substance abuse problems." His work and his concerns led him to join forces with the Honorable Judge Doug Henderson to develop Manatee County's DUI Court Program which helps provide structured treatment for offenders with documented substance abuse issues. As he migrates to from criminal work to civil trial work, Patrick looks forward to putting his experience to work for the injured and victims of drunk driving, under-age drinking, and other liquor liability situations.
