Students Won Prizes in Competition for Fine Arts

A "Utkarsh 2K12" national level Techfest was organized at GGI, Bilaspur on 26th April 2012. There were more than 20 Competitions which were based on Technical theme

Haryana, India (prHWY.com) May 3, 2012 - A "Utkarsh 2K12" national level Techfest was organized at GGI, Bilaspur on 26th April 2012. There were more than 20 Competitions which were based on Technical theme. More than 100 students from various colleges participated in this Competition. Inside the most conservative person, a hidden wild child wants to come out to play. Being painted as a wild green tiger, a fantasy, Amazon princess or a fanciful fairy, gives us permission to let the serious adult in us take a nap for few hours and let the child out!

Students of Samalkha Group Of Institutions(SGI) have also shown their Talent by participating in Technical Fine art Competition. Ashish (1st Year , CSE), and Saurabh (1st Year , ME) participated in Event-"Face Painting". They Secured 1st Position , and the other team of Salman Khan (1st Year ME) and Shubhum (1st Year ME) participated in Event "T-shirt painting" and secured 2nd Position. It is a Great Achievement for SGI.

These Fine arts are not new,these can be dated back thousands of years. Many ancient cultures (and a few cultures still today) used face painting to identify separate tribes, to mark special occasions and to strike fear into their enemies as they went into battle. To Native Americans, face painting had a powerful spiritual meaning and was taken very seriously. Certain colors represented certain meanings that varied little amongst different tribes. The use of colors might be as follows:
* Red- the color of war.
* White- the color of peace.
* Black- a "living" color, worn on the face to prepare for war.
* Green- worn under the eyes was supposed to empower the wearer with night vision.
* Yellow- represents death (the color of "old bones")

Native American's aren't the only ones who used face paint in the past (or continue to do so). The ancient Celts, armies both in history and today, Chinese opera singers, the geisha, theatre actors, and court jesters all wore and some still do wear face paint. If you visit any sports match, you'll see hundreds of individuals sporting face paint in support of their teams. Face painting isn't just a pastime used to amuse children; its roots are deep in our prehistory and that makes face painting all the more interesting.

T-shirt painting had also get a platform from the early 1950s. Several companies based in Miami,Florida started to decorate T-shirts with different resort names and various characters. The first company was Tropix Togs, under founder Sam Kantor, in Miami. They were the original license for Walt Disney characters that included Mickey Mouse and Davy Crockett. Later, other companies expanded into the T-shirt printing business.

Students of SGI have also shown their talent by playing with different colors and express their thoughts.
