Researchers looked at more than 2,000 burgers, chicken products, pizza, breakfast items, salads, sandwiches and french fries. Results showed fast food in Canada and the U.S. contained much higher levels of sodium than sold in the U.K. and France.

According to the results, which were published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, "The salt content of fast foods varies substantially, not only by type of food, but by company and country in which the food is produced."

The study found that the salt levels in foods from popular fast food chains vary around the world, with Canada coming in at the top of the charts for being the most salty.

The study also looked at the salt content of food items in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France, the United Kingdom and the United States from six popular fast food chains.

"Even when it comes to salads, the salt content was staggeringly high.
