Struggles and Life of South Dakota Drug Rehab Center
Primetime TV lineups are filled with dozens of reality TV shows that follow people's daily lives as they try to find love, pick out wedding dresses, and learn to cook.

"There are shows that approach interventions and people's struggle with going into rehab", said rehab director Ryan Matthews. "There are very few shows that actually show accurately what goes on during alcohol or drug rehab. We here at Precious Moments Rehabilitation Center want to change that."
Precious Moments Rehabilitation Center has proposed a reality TV show that would follow several rehabilitation residents as they try to overcome the struggles of addiction. The show would show individual counseling sessions, group counseling sessions, and what a recovering addict's daily life would be like should they enter rehab.
"Many people come to us after they have successfully completed rehab and said it was nothing like they expected", said Matthews. "There are so many myths and misunderstandings about drug and alcohol rehab that I think many people choose not to enter rehab because of it. Maybe this show can change people's minds."
The untitled reality series would not use actors or have a casting call to find people for the show. Instead, the show will feature real residents who have come to the Precious Moments Rehabilitation Center on their own. Part of the check-in process will include asking the soon-to-be residents if they would like to be a part of the reality show.
"We thought doing a casting call would be kind of cheesy", said addiction specialist Tammy Jones. "Asking people who have come to us for help will make it appear more like real life, and help us avoid some of the people who only want to do it for 15 minutes of fame. These are real people who want and need help for their addictions."
The Precious Moments Rehabilitation Center has been in business for over 50 years, and has a success rate of 75%. It features 30, 60, and 90 day programs. For the reality show, the center will be split into two groups: those that are a part of the show and those that aren't. Each resident will receive the same care from the same staff members, but it will avoid potential problems with filming.
"I really think this reality show could make a difference", said Jones. "People can see that rehab isn't all doom and gloom, and it could prompt people to get the help they need."
