Putting Championship Expands Age Eligibility For Junior Golfers

Junior golfers who enter the 2012 U.S. Putting Tour Championship will compete in one of three separate age brackets, 8-10, 11-13 and 14-18.

Carlsbad, CA (prHWY.com) May 7, 2012 - The U.S. Putting Tour announced today that it is expanding the age range for the Amateur Junior Golfer division of the 2012 USPT Championship to boys and girls 8 to 18 years of age as of September 26, 2012 and that the Junior Division will be divided into three age brackets: 8-10, 11-13 or 14-18.

"We want to enable more junior golfers to play in the putting championship," said USPT president, Jim Hartley. "And we also want to make it fair by breaking the Junior Division into three age brackets, so the juniors will compete against other kids that are close to them in age."

Hartley indicated that boys and girls will compete together in the Junior Division and that prizes will be awarded to top finishers in each of the three Junior age brackets.

The Junior Division will compete on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon of Championship Week, September 26 and 27, with starting times of 3:30 and 5:00 p.m. According to Hartley, these starting times allow local juniors in the San Diego area to get to the USPT Championship venue, Morgan Run Resort in Rancho Santa Fe, after school.

Hartley went on to say that the winning junior in each age bracket also earns the title of "America's Best Putter."

Golfers ages 13-18 also have the option of competing in the Men's or Women's Amateur Divisions or in the Pro Division, which is open to all golfers ages 13 and older. Amateur golfers who compete in the Pro Division of the USPT Championship risk losing their amateur status.

Junior golfers can enter the 2012 USPT Championship now by going to the U.S. Putting Tour website. The entry fee for the 72-hole putting championship is $100. The Junior Division is limited to 72 golfers.
