Jim Corbett National Park welcomes the rarest visitor

New Delhi, India (prHWY.com) May 16, 2012 - New Delhi: Jim Corbett National Park: A group of bird watchers and researchers spotted a Bean Goose one of the rarest breed of migrating birds, near the park. This beautiful bird with bright orange legs and black tipped bill marked with an orange strip has been sighted only twice in the Indian subcontinents nearly a decade back.
The team of comprising of Zara Kidwai, Idrish Hussain, Ashok and Satya Pal who were undertaking the annual water fowl census in Tumariya Wetland near the park reported sighting the solitary Bean Goose in the flock of other common species of migrating birds.
Bean Goose scientifically known as Anser Fabalis are mostly found in northern Europe and Asia and has two distinct varieties- Taiga Habitat and Tundra Habitat. The one sighted in Jim National Corbett Park is reported to be the later one by the Park Officials. These members of Anatidae family travels south during winter from the Arctic to temperate and sub tropical regions.
The news has been confirmed by Anushree Bhattacharya, the head of the research team in accordance with members of the goose specialist group of Wetlands International and IUCN-Species Survival Commission.
