Steven discusses a few of these progams:
The Canadian Experience Class allows people who have studied and/or worked in Canada to apply for permanent resident status. There are two streams: The first applies to those who have studied in and graduated from a Canadian College or University, obtained a post-graduate work permit and gained experience in a skilled, managerial or professional occupation for at least 12 months. The second stream is for those who have worked in Canada in one of the above occupations for a period of 24 monts (soon to be reduced to 12 months), without the requirement of a Canadian eduction.
The Federal Skilled Worker program also has two streams. The first applies to those with experience in one of 29 designated occupations. The second stream allows people who have been working in canada as a temporary foreign worker because of a labour shortage and whose employer has offered a permanent position or, for applicants outside of Canada, who obtain an arranged employment offer that has been approved by Human Resources and Skills Development Canada.
There are also a number of Provincial Nominee Programs that have been designed for skilled workers who can benefit a particular Canadian province and who meet certain provincial guidelines. Each province has there own criteria and an applicant may be eligible to meet those particular needs. An experienced Canadian Immigration Lawyer can be beneficial in finding a match between the skills and experiences of the applicant to the specific needs of a Canadian province.
Many humanitarian programs exist for those who are facing serious risk in their home countries or those who may not meet all the requirements of an immigration program, but who may be granted permanent residence for public policy reasons.
Sometimes the best way to start the process is to study in Canada and/or work here temporarily. Study permits and work permits are available to genuine students and foreign workers who meet eligibility criteria. Canadian education and experience can open many doors for those who desire to make Canada their home.
Family reunification is one of the prinicipal objectives of Canada's immigration laws and policies. Reuniting with spouses, children and other relatives who are either Canadian citizens or permanent residents can be facilitated through sponsorship programs and public policy guidelines. An experienced Canadian Immigration Lawyer can assess your situation to determine the applicable course of action, as well as represent your interests to Canadian Immigration authorities.
