BUTEYKO CENTER USA, NOW
WOODSTOCK, NY - Buteyko Center USA, which offers the breathing techniques and curative practices of K.P. Buteyko, M.D.

This change comes as part of an effort to reach out to new customers who may find relief from asthma and other breathing difficulties through the practice of Breathing Normalizationâ„¢. A spokesperson for Breathing Center emphasized that asthma is not something that only a few people contend with, but rather, a national epidemic that must be addressed.
The spokesperson says that, according to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, "Asthma is the most common chronic disease of childhood. In the United States, it is estimated that nearly 5 million youngsters under age 18 have this disease. In 1993 alone, asthma was the reason for almost 200,000 hospital stays and about 340 deaths among people under age 25. The numbers of young people and children with asthma is rising. In children ages 5-14 years, the rate of death from asthma almost doubled between 1980 and 1993. Also, every day in America 40,000 people miss school or work due to asthma; 30,000 people have an asthma attack; 5,000 people visit the emergency room due to asthma; 1,000 people are admitted to the hospital due to asthma; 11 people die from asthma."
The method advanced by Breathing Center is based on Dr. Buteyko's scientific discovery and method and promises relief from asthma and related symptoms that arise from "over-breathing" or hyperventilation. Breathing Center offers both free and more advanced programs to help people suffering from health issues for improving their health.
Ram Dass, the well-known spiritual teacher and former Ivy League professor, recently benefitted from using Breathing Center techniques. Having suffered for some period of time from breathing difficulties, Dass learned the method based on the practice of Dr. Buteyko and says that the improvements he experienced were "miraculous."
The Breathing Normalization specialist who worked with Ram Dass said, "When I saw this elderly noble man I experienced strong compassion - it was obvious that he was greatly suffering from oxygen starvation. His mouth was open almost all the time and his breathing was noticeably heavy. In the beginning I repeated almost incessantly, 'Ram Dass, please close your mouth.' Fortunately, as a person of high awareness and good discipline, he started doing his breathing exercises regularly and soon was able to lighten his breathing. Within about three months his situation evidently changed. He was able to sleep without his sleep apnea machine, his blood pressure became more normal, and his anxiety regarding his breathing was completely gone. Perhaps, even more importantly for him, the fact that his speech became much more fluent and his memory improved considerably. All of this just because he reduced his over-breathing and consequently increased the amount of carbon dioxide in his lungs - therefore all his organs, including his brain, started receiving more oxygen."
