Seattle, WA (prHWY.com) May 25, 2012 - New neighbor etiquette requires that people present the newest neighbors to the area with a gift basket. This gesture is viewed as a way to welcome the new neighbor with open arms and make them feel welcome to the community at least that was what it has always been viewed as in the small, cozy town of Winters Eve - until the recent incident.

Thomas Bellows and his family had recently moved into Winter Eve. Upon unpacking their belongings, Thomas noticed that there was a gift basket sitting on the steps.

"I really just thought it was a gift basket someone from the welcome committee left me", said Thomas in his statement to police. "The community had told me to expect a basket so I thought nothing of it. I took it in the house and just went about my day."

When things had settled down, Thomas and his family sat down to explore what was in the basket. Just as Thomas was placing his hand into the basket an exotic looking animal bit him on the hand and ran out of the house.

"The basket looked just like any other welcome basket", explained Thomas. "The only difference was that it was tailored for men, you know like those men gift baskets. Then again, we have 5 boys living in this house so it wouldn't be far off that someone would send me a guy basket."

Upon further examination of the basket it was indicated that the basket was not purchase from a distributor in the area, but was handmade to include numerous objects that would be of interest to the Bellows family. It appears as if the animal was placed in the basket as an afterthought.

"We are unsure exactly why someone would do this to a new family in the area," said police chief Johnny Hollingsworth. "We are investigating this incident seriously to make sure that this does not happen to any new people in the area. A police report was taken and Thomas Bellows was treated at a local medical facility for wounds to his hand due to the bite. That is all I can say on the matter as it is still under investigation."

Despite the unsettling incident, the Bellows have settled into their new home, and are enjoying the area. The kids love the new school and Steph Bellows loves being a part of the local mother's group.
