Seattle, WA (prHWY.com) May 27, 2012 - One of people's favorite things about attending sports events is seeing the sports team mascots in action. Mascots are beloved by sports fans all over the world for their silly antics, acrobatic skills, and fun-loving nature, but a recent development deal proposed by the Sports Team Mascots Association may just leave fans out there favorite mascot to cheer for at games.

"The deal that was proposed to us does not include the option for us to have SSI disability insurance taken out of our paychecks", explained the president of Sports Team Mascots Association, Jim Thomas. "While this normally wouldn't be a big deal, as a team mascot you run the risk of becoming injured while on the job and without SSI disability insurance that would leave the mascots without a way to earn a living when they become injured."

The deal which was proposed by general managers of the major sports teams did not go over very well with current and former team mascots. The general managers have always supplied SSI disability insurance for as long as there have been team mascots.

"This is a shame", said an unnamed mascot who has worked as a sports team mascot for over 20 years. "This is just a sign of the times and a product of the economy. Greedy people want to earn even more money, and we are a result of that."

The sports team mascots have threatened to strike if an appropriate deal is not proposed to them by the end of June. The only demand that is being placed on the general managers is to supply SSI disability insurance.

"Some people strike over silly little details", said Thomas. "We aren't. We did the math and this addition would cost the general managers maybe a total of $50 a month total for all the general managers. That's like the price of one ticket to the ballpark."

The general managers have been very tightlipped in regards to their opinion on this issue. However, in a statement released by the lawyer that represents 15 of the 30 general managers, it gave some hint of how the managers feel on the issue.

"We would be very sad to see the team mascots not be present at the games", said the statement that was mailed to media outlets early last week. "But this is a decision we all need to stand firmly behind. We will do everything we can to not have a strike happen, but there isn't much you can do when two groups cannot find common ground."

The two groups are scheduled to meet together sometime in June to discuss the terms of their contracts.
