Norcross, GA (prHWY.com) December 27, 2010 - If you are looking for cool electronic gadgets to go with your iPod or iPhone, check out the Denon S-52. It is a great device with HD/AM/FM radio and has cool set of features like CD player, Internet/network audio playback (along with Rhapsody), XM satellite radio compatibility, USB port, iPod dock, etc. There is also a clock along with dual alarms.There are a few drawbacks on the Denon S-52 though. The price is a bit high as compared to other rivals and the sound quality too is a bit lower than what you'd expect at this price. The absence of video output for the iPod is also disappointing. For testing, we used CDs which are the best sources of audio right now for quality. I immediately noted that the sound was aggressively detailed and bright.


The bass was really deep and our table easily started shaking as we pumped up the volume but midrange between treble and bass was recessed to a point that it made vocals look anemic and thin. We played Magic disc from Bruce Springsteen which sounded grating and harsh. After that, we used Polk I-Sonic table radio and the sound quality was much better. Voice of Bruce Springsteen was more human and the range of treble too was smoother. USB playback on Denon S-52 is a bit slow which is frustrating on such electronic gadgets. I saw some lag while changing the music tracks. On the bright side, the system could read track and artist information and also displayed it neatly. The feature set of this electronic gadget is really impressive but we wish the sound quality was better.
