Gustave White Sotheby's International Realty Named Best of Newport for Record 5th Time

Gustave White Sotheby's International Realty today announced being named "Best Real Estate Agency" for a record fifth time by the readers of Newport Life Magazine, having also been named in 2006, 2007, 2010, and again last year.

Newport, RI (prHWY.com) June 5, 2012 - NEWPORT, Rhode Island (May 3, 2012) -- Gustave White Sotheby's International Realty today announced being named "Best Real Estate Agency" for a record fifth time by the readers of Newport Life Magazine, having also been named in 2006, 2007, 2010, and again last year. No other Newport County agency has ever won more than three "Best Ofs".

Newport Life's "Best Of" awards were establsihed by the magazine in 1996 and have been bestowed on leading businesses in Newport County on an annual basis since then.

The Newport-based agency has been in business since 1924, growing out of the firm of Andrews & White. After Mr. Andrew's retirement in 1923, Gustave J.S. White formed a partnership with his associate James W. Dwyer under the name of Gustave J.S. White, Inc. The partners also run an insurance business and auction house in addition to the real estate agency.

In l976, as Gustave J.S. White Real Estate, the firm became the first agency to enter into an exclusive affiliation with Sotheby's International Realty®. In 2000, Christina West and Paul A. Leys purchased the company from Mr. Dwyer and in May of 2005, realigned with the newly structured Sotheby's franchise under the name Gustave White Sotheby's International Realty.

During the past eight decades, the firm has been the agent for many notable Newport County estates and oceanfront residences such as "Hammersmith Farm", "Gray Craig", "Seaweed", "The Playhouse", "Broadlawns" and "Avalon". In 2000, Gustave White was involved in the reselling of the "Gray Craig" estate in Middletown for a then record price, as well as the sale of "Miramar" on Bellevue Avenue in 2006, which continues to hold the record as the highest price paid for a residential property in Rhode Island to date.
