LDI's Coller to contribute at ILO's Youth Employment Forum global gathering promoting decent work for young adults

Glendale, AZ (prHWY.com) June 14, 2012 - According to the latest study conducted by the International Labour Organization (ILO), that is the estimated number of 15-24 year old young men and women around the world who are looking, but unable to find work. An additional 75 million youth work mostly in informal jobs without any benefits, job security, or workplace protections and earn about $2 USD per day.

Like same-age peers with disabilities, this global group of job-seekers are unemployed at rates three times higher than older adults. Data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics for working-age Americans with disabilities rates of employment participation has consistently hovered at 14-16% since 2009. These rates are slightly higher than the ILO study, which also have comparable rates of chronic unemployment among the same groups projected to remain at or above 13% until 2016.

As youth unemployment reaches unprecedented levels in many countries, the ILO will hold a global Youth Employment Forum in Geneva, Switzerland on May 23-25, 2012, to address the challenges young people face in the labor market. The ILO has been a world leader in promotion, research, and advocacy of the inclusion of workers with disabilities for over 50 years. Their site has excellent and updated resources that provide a world-view of social inclusion/exclusion of PwD in the workplace.

Justin Coller, Manager of Marketing for Life Development Institute & Global Network for Entrepreneurs with Disabilities is an invited partner joining just 100 young men and women who are 18-29 years old from around the world that are professionally involved in the promotion of decent work for youth.

Participants will share their experiences and views on the current employment situation and discuss practical examples of successful initiatives which have led to the promotion of decent work for youth. Simplified, decent work would include a position that is permanent, full time, pays a living wage, and has benefits.
