Singapore, Singapore (prHWY.com) June 19, 2012 - Singapore, June 08, 2012 -- Go Electric - the buzz that has been current in the automotive industry as with the actualisation and mass-production of green technologies. Our nation has been dilatory in the adoption of the concept, but lately a couple of heavyweights - such as Renault and Nissan, have launched their electric offerings in Singapore. Many, however, do not know that EV (Electric Vehicles) has long existed on our local grounds.

James Diebley, a professional educator based in Singapore, is the owner of the earliest EV in Singapore. The Corbin Sparrow is one of its kind in almost every way - other than its green underpinnings and unique outlook - the Sparrow is also the first three-wheeler to be registered locally. Mr. Diebley originally planned to have it registered as a motorcycle, but its 700kg kerb weight exceeds that of LTA's regulations, not to mention a number of car-like features such as the presence of a steering wheel and the encumbered cabin. More relevantly, Mr. Diebley imported the EV in May 2001 and took two and half years to register. It was, nonetheless, a good wait for him.

Speaking on his deviated choice, Mr. Diebley commented, "I wanted to help educate people on the topic of making this world a cleaner place by purchasing this vehicle. I have done many talks with school groups, boy scouts and inventor conferences. Not only will electric cars save the planet, it's a step closer to accepting a plethora of creative ideas that can help our future generation."

Manufactured in the U.S.A, only 285 of these were ever built, each individually numbered. According to Mr. Diebley, his Corbin Sparrow is the 128th of its kind to roll out from the factory. The early electric car has a range of 30 to 50km per full charge, and has a top speed of 110km/h.

Now that Mr. Diebley will be entering his next phase in life as a father, the Sparrow will no longer fulfil his commuting needs. As such, he has decided to part with his daily commute of 11 years. Diebley has put the Sparrow up for sale on Singapore's leading online motoring portal, sgCarMart.com.
