St. Louis Eye Surgeon Develops a New Retinal Procedure that Can Enhance National Security
A St. Louis eye surgery center has come up with a solution that will sweep the world off its feet.

"Retinal scanners are this century's version of the thumbprint scanner", said chief of security for a well-known hospital that works to develop top of the line drugs. "Most government and medical facilities that require security have made the switch to these scanners, but even with the switch the 'bad guys' are always two steps ahead."
Recently, a group of unauthorized individuals gained access to a top secret government facility through the use of a life-like model of the human eye. This model was held up to the scanner and contained an imprint of the retinal image. The scanner was fooled into believing it was a real human and granted access. Nothing was compromised but it put the security world on edge.
Dr. Lewis Freedman has taken a considerable amount of time to develop a way to combat these problems. While there is no way to change or duplicate a retinal image, Dr. Lewis Freedman has developed a way to create a signature ID number that is implanted just behind the eye.
"This small ID number is almost like a social security number", explained Dr. Freeman. "When the retinal scanner scans the eye it looks for this chip and makes sure it matches one of the codes that has already been programmed into the system."
The small signature ID number is implanted behind the eye in a pain-free procedure that takes just minutes. Individuals who have been implanted with the number don't feel a thing and there is no outward sign that they have this unique ID number that sets them apart.
Retinal scanners with this additional layer of security have been introduced in the White House and the Pentagon. There have been no reported breeches in security since the installation.
"It is our hope that many other governmental and medical facilities will follow our lead and implement this extra layer of security", said John Crawford security analyst for the Pentagon. "It really is amazing what this little chip can do, and it boosts our confidence that our nation's secrets are kept safe and secure."
