Dog Walking Service Implements Tracking System to Find Lost Dogs

If one should run off, it could mean not only a major lawsuit from the owner, but that that family never sees their beloved family member again. A dog walker based out of Seattle may have come up with a solution to keeping track of all the dogs - a
fleet management software program.

"No matter how hard a dog walker tries to keep track of their dogs an accident can happen and one may run off", explained John Gallows. "Sometimes we find the dog in a few hours, sometimes - unfortunately - we don't. If we developed a way to track the dogs, we'd be able to find them within minutes when they run off."

Fleet management software programs are often used by large companies to track shipments and entire fleets of employees. These programs use tiny GPS tracking chips in the vehicles and will show on a large map of the area where a certain truck or shipment is at any given time. This can work for dogs and walkers.

"The dog walker fleet tracking system is exactly like a corporate fleet tracking system", explained Gallows. "The only difference is instead of tracking trucks, vans, cars or delivery personnel it tracks dogs."

The dog walking fleet tracking system requires that all dog walkers place a small GPS chip under the dog collar. The chip is connected to the fleet tracking system and should a dog run off it can be tracked through the system. The chip can be easily removed when the customer picks up the dog and dog walkers can use the chip on different dogs for different walk routes.

"We would hate for people to lose their beloved pets", explained Gallows. "That is exactly what we are trying to avoid here. Our goal is that people who want and need their pets can find them should they run away."

The fleet tracking system has only been in use for several months, but so far it has helped Gallows find and track several dogs that have decided to become adventurous and run off. The tracking system helped them track the dogs within minutes and all dogs were returned to their owners safe and sound.

"When Gallows called to tell me my dog ran away I was devastated", said Trista Connors. "Then he told me about their tracking system, and my dog was found right away. It was really amazing, and I wish all dog walkers had this."
