Mayor of High Hills Hopes Golf Cart Parade Can Increase Tourism to Area
Mention the word 'golf carts' and most people think of small drivable cars that senior citizens love to drive around Arizona housing complexes and neighborhoods.

"We have heard of cities hosting boat parades, car parades, and even a parade of dogs", said the mayor of High Hills, Arizona. "We thought a golf cart parade would be a great way to increase tourism and encourage people to see all the unique golf carts our city has to offer."
The parade will start at the city limits for High Hills and go through the downtown city center. The golf carts will ride all through Main Street, and anyone with a decorated golf cart can enter this unique parade.
This year's parade will feature pirate themed golf carts, sports themes, a golf cart that looks like the bat mobile, and other unique designs. Golf cart owners have spent months preparing for the event in the hopes of winning one of the blue ribbons for best show golf cart.
"We hope that by offering this unique parade we get not only people who want to view the uniquely decorated golf carts to come here, but golf cart enthusiasts as well", said the mayor. "I am currently in works with a golf cart convention that has expressed interest in hosting its annual nation convention in our city."
The golf cart convention features vendors and retailers from all over the United States. People come from all over the country, and even some internationally to attend this convention. Thousands of dollars are spent not only on hotel rooms and food, but on the vendors and tourism to the area.
"Bringing this unique convention to the area can not only help our local economy but can really put High Hills on the map", said the mayor. "Right now you mention High Hills to anyone and they almost give you a stink eye, they have no idea where it is. We plan to change that."
This year's golf cart parade features 150 golf carts. That doesn't include any last minute entries, as people are allowed to enter day-of for the event.
"I have been looking forward to this all year", said Tom Brown, one of the 150 entrants into the parade. "I really think it'll be a fun way to spend the summer season, and it'll be kind of cool to see all the unique golf carts."
