Most of the part of Makalu Trekking is protected by Makalu Barun National Park, established in 1992 as Nepal 8th national park. Makalu Trekking is rewarded as one of the most challenging and adventures with wide diversity of ecosystems, culture, and sensational scenery. The National is best way to explore many varieties of orchids, more than 3,000 species of flowering plants and an abundant wildlife including the endangered red panda, musk deer, Himalayan black deer and leopard. There are more than 400 bird species, some of which are extremely rare.

Makalu region is the home of Mt. Makalu (8463m), 5th highest peak in the world. Makalu Trekking is an outstanding trekking to the base camp of Mt. Makalu. The trek leads lush and beautiful lower Arun Valley before crossing the Shipton La (4127m) into the upper Barun Khola Valley. On the way of Journey, you will trek through the fine settlement of several ethnic groups Tamang, Newar, Limbu, Rai and communities sherpa and bhotia villages as altitude is gained.

Mt. Makalu, Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse and Mt. Chhamlang are performing stunning backdrop as the head of the Barun Valley. This is an extremely rewarding trek that remains largely untouched by tourism. It is definitely one for the connoisseur of wild places! Our itinerary has been carefully planned to allow for acclimatization to the altitude, and ample time in the area of "low" base camp for further exploration to high base camp at the foot of the Chago Glacier, and for those who wish, a climb to a high point of 6170m ((20,240ft). There are some long days of 7 to 8 hours walking; some rough trail sections and the effects of altitude will be present.
