Seattle, WA (prHWY.com) June 27, 2012 - American culture is not notorious for taking care of its elderly as they should. Japanese, Indian and Chinese cultures often respect and worship the elderly. One osenior health care service is trying to show elderly individuals that they are adored and respected by bringing in some of these cultural influences into the healthcare regime.

"It's unfortunate but people just don't respect the elderly like they used to", said Joanne Costly. "I want to make it my mission that the elderly feel respected like they should without having to leave their homes. That is the main reason I founded Around the World Senior Health Care Services."

Around the World Senior Health Care Services makes it its mission to incorporate some of the cultural influences from around the world in its healthcare services. Joanne Costly was so intent on making this happen that she spent seven years touring the world to see how different cultures treated the elderly.

"I was shocked and almost appalled that Americans had such a lack of respect for the elderly", said Costly. "However, I should say I wasn't that surprised. I see it daily where younger, fitter people seem to think the elderly are some laughing stock. It makes me sad."

Joanne Costly combines tender, love and care into her business. Every patient is treated with respect. They are listened to and given someone to share their stories with.

All of the employees at Around the World Senior Health Care Services are given extensive training courses in interpersonal communication skills. These skills help the employees know how to properly communicate with the elderly.

"The old senior health care service provider I worked with didn't go to this length to teach us how to communicate with our patients", said Sam Timmons, a nurse for Around the World Senior Health Care Services. "These courses surprisingly gave me great insight into the patients and I find I don't lose my cool as often when I am on the job."

The response for this program is extremely positive. The service provides care to over 60 patients and has 20 individuals on staff.

"I recently got a letter from a daughter who was stationed overseas in Japan", said Costly. "She told me she was extremely relieved to find our service. She wanted to show her grandma the respect that the Japanese culture has for their elderly and she just wasn't finding it. When she tried our service she knew we did our research and we try to recreate that experience and respect as best we can."
