GREENDANCE WINERY CELEBRATES FIVE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Award-Winning Local Winery is a Popular Destination for Pittsburghers

Mt. Pleasant, PA, May 7, 2012 - Five years ago, the owners of Sand Hill Berries - a family-owned small fruits farm in southwestern Pennsylvania - had an epiphany. They realized that they could use the farming expertise they had gained while growing their fruit crops - including gooseberries, currants, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries and blueberries -- to grow quality hybrid vinifera grapes, and begin to produce a full spectrum of sophisticated and high-quality wines.

"We knew we had the farming skills to grow grapes and open a winery," said Susan Lynn, who owns Sand Hill Berries along with husband Rick and partners Rob and Amy Schilling, and who is also one of the six principals who own and operate Greendance Winery. "But what we needed was a winemaker - that's when we found Walt."

The Lynns and the Schillings approached neighbor Walter Vinoski, a retired engineer and private enologist who had been making wine and growing grapes for years, and asked if he and his wife Roxanne would like to join them as principals of Greendance Winery, and to act as their winemaker. Walt and Roxanne signed on, and Walt has been producing award-winning wines for Greendance since its opening in 2007.

Since it opened, Greendance Winery has been attracting visitors from Ohio, Virginia, New York, West Virginia and a host of other states. But many of their regulars are Pittsburghers who feel that they've stumbled upon a gem in Greendance, and they visit the winery regularly.

"When most people first come to Greendance, they feel that they've been transported to Sonoma or Russian River Valley in California - the setting is beautiful, and the wines are spectacular," said Diane Dilworth, Greendance's tasting room manager. "And the best part is that Greendance is only 45 minutes from Pittsburgh - they can drive out for a quick visit, or spend the weekend and go to the other wineries on the Southwest Passage Wine Trail - which includes Glades Pike Winery, Greenhouse Winery, Christian Klay Winery, Walnut Hill Winery and Thistlethwaite Vineyards. And Stone Villa Winery is just down the road from Greendance."

Jay Brown, winery manager at Greendance Winery, confirms that Greendance has attracted a steadily-growing clientele since it first opened its doors in 2007. "At first, people only knew us as Sand Hill Berries, but now, we have a growing group of regulars
