Motivated mum Joins Olympic Torch Relay and Kilimanjaro Challenge
Hazel Frost who lost her son, Darren aged 18, on Boxing Day 2009 in a cycling accident is continuing her campaign to raise money to build a skate park in his memory by carrying the Olympic Torch on its relay through her local town

Hazel said "How does any parent deal with the loss of a child, at any age? He was my only child and when he died aged 18 my world fell apart. But I was lucky enough to have so many fantastic people around me. My family, friends and more importantly Darren's friends have all given me so much support that I wanted to give something back and allow people who knew my son to be able to remember him the way he would have wanted."
The first skate park in memory of Darren was opened in 2011 and Hazel has continued her fundraising efforts and now a second new skate park in Bangor is scheduled to be built in August 2012. "It's just fantastic there's going to be another skatepark in Bangor and another facility for youngsters because there's been so little for them," she said."It's going to be a different type of park with ramps and paths rather than a bowl, it will be better for the younger skaters."
She has also been nominated to be part of the Olympic flame relay through Bangor on 28 May 2012. The torch started its journey today at Lands End with David Beckham lighting it and Ben Ainslee starting the first leg of the relay.
Hazel, helped by friend Emma Wynne-Hughes, will then be making the journey to climb Kilimanjaro. They will set off on Saturday, July 28, to take on the 5,895m high challenge. She said: "Training seems to be going well. I've done extreme heat/cold training on an inclined treadmill in a chamber in Bangor University's sports science lab and altitude training in the same lab, both went really well. I've also joined Para Boot Camp (circuit training army style) and am now looking at starting to do more climbing up Snowdon"
Jane Deakin of Private Expeditions commented "I remember Hazel's first phone call enquiring about her Kilimanjaro climb and hearing the harrowing story of the loss of her son and her motivation and inspiration for her climb. What she is doing is really special and we are very proud to be helping her in her charity challenge."
Anyone who wants to donate can do so through Hazel and Emma's Just Giving Page.
