As Pets' Place in the Family Becomes More Permanent, the Pet Services Industry Expands
With one-third of US households now owning at least one cat, there is a growing need for cat- and kitten-related services (Humane Society).

Cat Boarding: A Growing Market
Great Depression era pet owners wouldn't dream of paying sitters to take care of their pets for any time period. Times have evolved since then. Dog owners began to board their dogs when they would be away for extended lengths, rather than relying solely on neighbors or family. Then it became more usual to board pets for overnight getaways. It is now common practice for dog and cat owners alike to take their pets to daycare while they work, much like their children. As kitten boarding becomes more usual and acceptable, the demand for cat and kitten sitters grows. Owners of new kittens no longer leave their young pets home alone, but are choosing instead to hire sitters for the work day.
