RICHMOND, VA (prHWY.com) July 26, 2012 - RICHMOND, Va., July XX, 2012 - It is becoming increasingly common for businesses and other organizations to use awards to encourage worker productivity, according to one K2 Trophies & Awards sales report.

The report marks a distinct shift between 2007 and 2012. "In 2007, about 80% of our market share was in sports trophies," states Charlie Moss, owner of K2 Trophies and Awards. "In 2012, that number dropped to about 50%, with the other 50% of sales now being derived from our corporate awards."

In tough economies, businesses are more likely to attempt to retain present employees, and Moss suggests that corporate awards are one way they are attempting to do this. "A professional award can be a major incentive for some employees," he says. "An award for meeting a specific sales goal, or for being the top performer in a given department, for example, is a great way to encourage each employee's best work and to show top performers that they are valued by the company."

Unlike the plastic figurines set on stone which make popular sports trophies, corporate trophies are typically plaques or pieces of artwork made out of glass, Lucite or crystal. "They are designed to add a touch of class to the winner's office, serving as both a token of the company's appreciation and a decorative piece," says Moss. "The unique shapes of the trophies also serve to differentiate them from a sports trophy. On sight, you recognize one of these trophies as having been awarded for hard work, innovation, ingenuity and creativity. They are inspiring to look at, and encourage the recipient to keep giving their best, so that their hard work may continue to be rewarded."

Though the company sells corporate and sports awards in a wide variety of styles and price ranges, the most popular corporate awards are the higher-quality pieces on the site. "Companies aren't cutting corners when it comes to recognizing their employees," Moss observes. "They seem to favor glass and crystal awards, and the best-quality plaques. They are seeing it as an investment in employee retention, and acting accordingly. This was simply not happening as much five years ago. We're excited to be a part of this growing trend, providing top-notch corporate awards, plaques and trophies to companies throughout the United States."
