Eclectic Thrift Store Works to Become an Entry into the World Record Books

There is a common thought that once a person has experienced one thrift store, they've experienced them all. Thrift stores all over the world not only look alike but contain a similar combination of antiques and used items.

Seattle, WA (prHWY.com) July 29, 2012 - There is a common thought that once a person has experienced one thrift store, they've experienced them all. Thrift stores all over the world not only look alike but contain a similar combination of antiques and used items. A small thrift store based out of Maryland has made it their goal to try and stand out from the thrift store crowd.

"Our goal is to really transform how people see thrift stores", said owner Simon Mountmore of Tilt-a-Whirl Thrifts. "People tend to think that thrift stores are only for the poor or those that avid antique collections, but they aren't. We've taken our store and transformed it into a collection of goods that appeals to88 a wide range of people."

Tilt-a-Whirl Thrifts is the first thrift store in the country that works to combine a number of favorite attractions into one. In addition to the regular thrift store filled with used goods and antiques, this store features a restaurant, jewelry gallery, and mini spa.

"We want people when they think of Tilt-a-Whirl Thrifts to think of an adventure", said Mountmore. "We want them to come here for more than just antiques and old treasures. That is why we've built a restaurant, spa and jewelry store into the thrift store. We're more than just old items."

Tilt-a-Whirl Thrifts has been featured in numerous local, regional and national magazines, blogs and websites for its eclectic range of services. In fact, the thrift store is working on trying to join the Guinness Book of World Records for thrift store that offers the largest range of services.

"We think it would be really cool to become an entry into the Guinness Book of World Records", said Mountmore. "We are currently working with officials to see what we'd have to do or add to our current store to earn an entry."

Guinness Book of World Records officials declined to comment on working with the thrift store to become an entry into their book. However, an anonymous source agreed to talk on condition of anonymity.

"We were asked to not talk about the idea of thrift stores becoming a part of the Guinness Book of World Records", said the unnamed source. "But, I have been present at several meetings that were held in order to discuss the situation. It is only a matter of months before we see a 'largest thrift store' and 'most services at a thrift store' category added to the book. That's all I can really say though."
