Winter Weather Blues Won't Harm Seattle Animals Any Longer

Seattle, WA (prHWY.com) July 31, 2012 - Seattle isn't known for its extremely cold weather but during the winter months the temperatures can really start to dip. Some marine animals are equipped to handle the rapidly dipping temperatures, while others are not but a new invention from a local Seattle heating company will help all animals survive the cold weather when it hits.

"It was first brought to our attention that some animals experience discomfort when the temperatures start to dip", said Todd Bridges owner of Icy Not Seattle Heating and Cooling Company. "I couldn't bear to think of animals like seals and birds freezing so I had to come up with a solution that would work for everyone."

Todd Bridges invented a tiny little housing area that can be used by animals that are looking for shelter from the cold. These tiny shelters are placed all along the coast and Puget Sound making it extremely accessible to animals when they need it.

"We have these tiny little shelters that are headed 24/7 during the winter months", explained Bridges. "These shelters can be used by animals that are unable to find the shelter they need when it gets cold. They can just climb into these heated shelters and be protected."

The Animal Society of Seattle estimates that these heated shelters could save 600 animal lives during the winter months. The exact numbers will not be available until after the first year.

"We think that these shelters can really protect animals and end up saving lives", said marketing director for the Animal Society of Seattle. "I think it's really commendable what Bridges is doing and can save a lot of animals. He saw a problem and knew he could help, and he stepped up to the plate. Not many people would have done that."

The shelters which are meant for animals have required that Seattle police step up their patrol of the area. In an effort to ensure that the shelters are used for animals and not parties on the beach, police will be regularly patrolling the area.

"We hope to implement an electronic system that allows us to monitor the stations", said Bridges. "This system would send us a signal whenever someone or something entered the shelter. It would not only allow us to see who is using the station, but help police patrol the area and keep the buildings used for what they were intended - the animals."
