Harrow, United Kingdom (prHWY.com) August 1, 2012 - There is plenty of optimism on Merseyside since the arrival of the new manager Brendan Rodgers from Swansea. He has a lot of hard work ahead of him but he will certainly bring fresh ideas and with his passing game he can make an immediate impact in the title race.

Jose Mourinho few years ago rang up Watford to persuade them to give Brendan Rodgers his first job as a manager. Since than the new Liverpool's boss has been referred to as 'The Special One's Special One'.

Last season he did a miracle with Swansea. Nobody wanted to see them losing because of the way they passed the ball. He made look expensively built teem poor in comparison. If the track record in South Wales is the main reason why Rodgers has been picked to be the new man at Anfield Road, he has done well also before making headlines.

Locally everyone is backing Brendan as if you take any local Merseyside paper you will see only positive comments. The players are on the same line as Roy Evans, Craig Bellamy and Jamie Carragher have all being full of praise for him. In the football betting market punters are sharing the same optimism. A few months after Kenny Dalglish's squad finished in 8th place, Rodgers is heading towards the new season with his club odds-on at 1.55 for a top six finish. The price for a return to the Champions League also looks short considering last few years achievements at 3.75.

I may be wrong but at the moment I think that there is valye in laying both bets. The reason is that if you check out Rodgers' track record, you can see that he has never delivered in the first season in charge. His style of football needs time to be assimilated by players and at Watford for example he took just nine points from his first ten gamers. When he moved to Reading players also struggle to take his ideas and they were in the Championship relegation zone when he was sacked five months into the job. Even at Swansea he lost half his first eight games and in that situation he inherited players used to passing the ball under Paulo Sousa.

If the project is serious than they would need to bring in some very qualitative players. They have already missed out on Gylfi Sigurdsson and they are now linked with Fabio Borini who is unproven in English football. Everything points to the fact that it will be a difficult start for Rodgers: he will need to take on criticisms at the beginning if he wants to have a chance to re-establish Liverpool in the Premier League elite. Although the majority of Liverpool fans have approved the decision of appointing him, many have expressed doubts on whether Rodgers has the credentials to take over from their idol Kenny Dalglish. A poor start would magnify that debate on every media up and down the country.

I think Mourinho's prediction could ultimately be right, but it will take time for Rodgers to establish himselves. Whatever he will be given this time or not, it remains to be seen.
