According to sources reporting from the recent airshow in Farnborough, England (e.g. http://www.militaryaerospace.com/articles/2012/07/insitu-uav-sales.html, http://www.janes.com/events/exhibitions/farnborough-2012/news/july-11/Insitu-ScanEagle-Japanese.aspx), the demand for Hood Tech's launch systems, which are designed so that neither runways nor extended deck space is required, is inevitably increasing. Hood Tech's compact, compressed-air, catapult launchers don't even need the space of a helicopter pad, operating easily (and frequently) in crowded deck conditions, such as those typical of the corvettes on which the Singapore Navy intends to deploy the launch systems.

When in 1990 Hood Tech began producing UAV launchers and innovative retrieval systems for small UAVs, those innovations enabled the elimination of runways for launch and retrieval. This freed aircraft for shipboard use, in rugged landscapes, and for other difficult locations. Showing their ruggedness and reliability, Hood Tech launchers have been used to initiate tens of thousands of flights under the extreme environments of combat in Iraq and Afghanistan and aboard ships in the oceans across the globe.

Dr. Andy von Flotow founded Hood Technology in Hood River, Oregon in 1993. Along with the design and manufacture of launch systems, Hood Technology:

Develops, tests, and manufactures stabilized imaging systems for a variety of UAVs and

Monitors blade vibrations in industrial turbines and jet engines, a diagnostic method for predicting possible future failures.
