Classic Fairy Tales Rewritten in an Effort to Boost Morale in the Western Washington Area
Any little girl who has a fascination with princesses and fairy tales has heard the story of The Princess and the Pea. A local memory foam mattress provider based out of Everett, Washington has undertaken the task of reenacting the story

"The story involves 20 regular mattresses in an effort to have the girl feel a small sized pea under her mattress", explained Bob Smith owner of Beds and Linens. "We thought we'd update the story a little and make it so that she is forced to sleep on a memory foam bed instead of a regular mattress, which adds a whole unique twist to the story".
Memory foam mattresses are often praised for their comfortable, plush feeling that practically wraps the body in a cocoon of warmth and support. The reenactment of The Princess and the Pea by Beds and Linens requires that the girl who wishes to become a princess must sleep on a stack of mattresses that reaches the top of three story house.
"The original story has the girl sleeping on 20 regular sized mattresses", explained Bob Smith. "But the comfort and luxury of a memory foam bed requires that more be used. The more memory foam mattresses the harder the challenge, which is really what the whole story is about. Challenging the girl to show she's a real princess."
Beds and Linens plans on taking numerous fairy tales that children are familiar with and updating them. Currently in the works is a retelling of The Little Mermaid in which the mermaid finds a floating memory foam mattress and takes it underwater with her. Other stories in the creative stages include a telling of Thumbelina, Hansel and Gretel, and other favorites.
"The idea to rewrite favorite stories is a little two fold", said Smith. "We want people to experience something new and creative, but we also want to raise awareness for memory foam mattresses. Many people are still uncomfortable with the idea of moving away from their spring mattress. These stories might make them open up to the idea and really embrace it."
Beds and Linen plans on taking their stage play involving several memory foam beds on the road if successful. They plan on touring Western Washington in hopes of reaching a massive audience. The first staging of "The Princess and the Pea: Retold" is scheduled for early September.
