News Team Gets Surprising Result on Survey of the Meaning of Acronym VPS
Cable 17 News sent out its crack team of acronym police to find out just how many people knew what the letters VPS stand for in the phrase

According to Captain J.J. Adams of the acronym police, not a single person surveyed had any idea of what he was talking about when he questioned random suspects on the street about the meaning of VPS.
"They either stood their shaking their heads at me or walked away slowly before taking off at a quick clip in the other direction," said the captain. "It's not like I was pointing my weapon at them," he chuckled. "Just sort of - in their general direction."
Other members of the force were equally unlucky with the verbal search and seizure process. "People would tell me that windows were things that you looked out of, and that hosting was something that teenagers do at all-you-can eat pizza buffet joints, but they didn't even attempt to try to reconcile the meaning of the acronym in question," reported Staff Sgt. James Patters.
The exercise lasted one complete working day, with the police scattered over several communities in the Los Angeles area. Rural communities were scoured, urban hotspots were cruised, and everything in between was gone over with a fine-toothed comb.
In all, more that $80,000 in public tax dollars were spent on the salaries and travel expenses for the officers involved, and not a single scrap of valid data was obtained that could be used as any sort of reference that the world at large had any idea what VPS stood for.
"We even started telling people that we would pay them to guess at the end," said Private Don Dickensworth. "We had to made our quota," and we were really getting desperate."
Ultimately, the question of what VPS means went unanswered at the conclusion of the exercise, and it was even determined that the acronym police themselves had no idea, so they wouldn't have been able to tell if anyone was right or wrong anyway.
One small child answered their questions with a question during the investigation. Shielding his eyes from the sun as he looked up into their stern faces, he asked them simply "Why don't you Google it?"
