TeamCast offers a new training session which focuses on DVB-T2 and upcoming DVB-NGH
Rennes (France), February 10 2010 - TeamCast, the renowned leader in digital modulation technologies for Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT), Mobile TV and Satellite Transmission, capitalises on its leadership skills in the field of DVB-T2, by being active in DVB-NGH, the new DVB standard dedicated to rich media consumption on Next Generation Handhelds.
TeamCast has already proved its expertise in DVB-T2 technology with innovative products such as Power4-T2 for broadcast transmissions and T-MOD T/T2 for laboratory experimentations and receiver developments, two version of its DVB-T2 modulators each DVB-T2 product range offering advanced T2 features for its respective applications.
The Power4-T2 has been selected to provide the very first commercial deployment of DVB-T2 network in SFN mode (Single Frequency Network) in Finland. In the same way, thanks to the early availability of multi-service layered modulation, TeamCast enabled its German partner, Media Broadcast to go even further and carry out the first in-field trial involving both SFN-MISO (Multiple Inputs, Single Output) and multi-PLP (multiple physical layer pipes) modulation. This extensive testing was particularly useful for measuring DVB-T2's performance with the most demanding conditions and tuning parameters, using for instance rotated and un-rotated constellations in parallel.
Following its strategy to fully comply with the DVB-T2 standard which is very relevant for supporting new bandwidth-consuming services (HD, 3D), TeamCast keeps a close technology watch on DVB-T2's ability to also support mobile content. Indeed, a subset of T2 parameters optimised for mobile broadcast, in addition to a few necessary enhancements for better mobility, known as the DVB-T2 mobile profile, should be normalised as part of the DVB-NGH standardisation initiative. The so-called DVB-NGH "phase one" will be the next broadcast standard to be completed before the end of the year. Targeting in its 2nd phase a full cooperation with unicast mobile networks (LTE), it is believed to be paving the way for an effective unicast/broadcast convergence.
Wishing to anticipate its partners' needs, TeamCast is now offering a new DVB-T2 training session that includes a focus on DVB-T2 mobile and the forthcoming DVB-NGH variant. "This training aims at helping not only transmitter manufacturers, our legacy customers, but also players like telecom operators, to help them better understand why DVB-NGH can be considered to be a very good option for mid-term mobile broadcast. The strengths of DVB-T2 mobile and its enhancements as part of DVB-NGH will be highlighted and the trainees will gain a better idea of how to achieve a successful unicast/broadcast convergence," says Eric PINSON, TeamCast Technology's Manager at TeamCast.
