Debt Management Department To Be Renamed "Debt Prevention Department
In a very interesting structural move, the world's largest debt management company has decided to change its name from the Debt Management Department to the Debt Prevention Department.

"We feel like that semantic adjustment may be the verbal reminder that people need to understand that the best way to manage debt is to not have any at all," says company president Seymour Allen.
"There is this feeling of protection that people get if they know that there are things out there called debt management companies or processes, and it makes them feel like they are safe spending more than they have. This false sense of security is really starting to bum us out, as we're finding that there is no realistic way to manage finances after they get to a certain critical level."
To promote their new concept, the Debt Prevention Department is even starting to sponsor classes in schools across the nation, some which are designed to be attended by children as young as 5th graders.
"If a child is allowed to use a cellphone, they should understand the basics about finances," says company treasurer Jane Watts. "It's not a complicated idea that you should not spend what you can't afford, but children seem to be getting the idea otherwise somewhere in their education chain, and we are going to try to prevent that any way that we can."
Their collective company theory is that the change in their name will give at least a subliminal suggestion to the overall population of the world that it is time to wake up and start taking responsibility for crunching numbers correctly and determining what are the limits to the number of conveniences that they are purchasing.
"Luxury items are some of the worst offenders of getting people into debt," says new DPD employee John Marks. "People think that they can leave a dealership with a car or a boat because they can make payments on it, but that gets out of hand really quickly, and suddenly these same people have an old boat that isn't worth much, and they haven't even paid the interest on it yet."
It will be a little while before the DPD figures out if this name change has any positive effects, but at least they feel like they are taking their industry in a direction that may help humanity as a whole.
